THE CHALLENGE: Aircheck
Earth

Develop an app or platform to crowd-source information for comparing changes in environmental factors, such as temperature, relative humidity, air pollution, with occurrence of symptoms of allergies and respiratory diseases. Create tools for public entry and grading of symptoms, including but not limited to cough, shortness of breath, wheezing, sneezing, nasal obstruction, itchy eyes; and geographic mapping of symptom frequency and intensity. Create a platform for comparison of symptom map with NASA provided data, with visualization options for web and/or smart phone.

Explanation

NiceCity is a crowd-source platform that associates real cases of respiratory diseases along the world with open environmental data, like temperature, atmospheric pressure and pollution, to build the biggest worldwide platform of open data for the prevention and investigation of respiratory epidemics and diseases.

The intented targets for this platform are government institutions and organizations who share concern for public health. The information provided will allow them to assign health and investigation budgets in a more efficient way.In addition, the data could be used to regulate polluting gases emission by evaluating its impact in the community.

The platform will consist of 3 modules. The first module will be a mobile application called CityME which, through a system of trophies and discounts on generic medicine services and products, will encourage the report of the appearance of respiratory symptoms in a easy and understandable way. Even more, CityME will help the users in creating their healthiest route by calculating the best path to avoid focus of pollution and infection. The second module will be a web application intented to be integrated with health institutions to harvest anonymous data for these kind of patients. The third module, HealthConnect, is a public access website in which all this data will be transformed into a user-friendly comprehensible structure, like heat maps, tables, reports, etc. Besides, with the data recollected, the platform will provide an API available for developers and entrepreneurs that would liketo improve the life quality.

The base prototype of the mobile application was built during the present event along with a web service that allows the user to check the actual pollution index in any place on earth. It’s planned to continue this development in the near future and connect public institutions with this initiative. As the starting point, Colombia will become the leading country for the prevention and investigation of respiratory epidemics and diseases.
