THE CHALLENGE: Don’t Crash My Drone
Aeronautics

Create an app that will enable small drone operators to know more about specific weather parameters, local terrain and no fly zones within a five-mile radius of their GPS location.

Explanation

Our solution changes the way people think about drones in a safe and recreational way. With Drazy, you can see a 5 mile radius with real-time micro weather reports (including wind speeds, humidity, atmospheric data, etc.) and also no fly zones, airports and popular locations. We're also bringing the social media movement to UAVs. Check in with Facebook, see drone users around you (and in your city), compare activity scores, and make long lasting drone-ships. To increase your score visit different regions and "tag" interesting sites with your drones so that other users can see where you've been. We also extend this tagging capability to emphasize crowdsourcing in ways such as reporting disruptive elements in certain locations (i.e. herd of geese). Inspired by the ever-evolving future that we are currently in, we are interested in developing software to help you utilize the most out of your drone...we're also interested in competing on the international state, and we wish good luck to our competitors :)

Resources Used

Android app (Java), a Python flask server which is hosted on AWS, connected directly with the MySQL database. In addition, we are hosting image links on imgur for now. We used the forecast.io API, static airport data from various national sites, and lots of random libraries in Android.
