Develop an app or platform to crowd-source information for comparing changes in environmental factors, such as temperature, relative humidity, air pollution, with occurrence of symptoms of allergies and respiratory diseases. Create tools for public entry and grading of symptoms, including but not limited to cough, shortness of breath, wheezing, sneezing, nasal obstruction, itchy eyes; and geographic mapping of symptom frequency and intensity. Create a platform for comparison of symptom map with NASA provided data, with visualization options for web and/or smart phone.
¿POR QUE ES AERIS UNA WEBAPP INNOVADORA?
Existe una cantidad sustancial de estudios que reflejan los efectos dañinos de los agentes contaminantes del aire en la salud humana. Los desarrolladores de Aeris somos un grupo multidisciplinario de nueve jóvenes, de entre 17 y 24 años. Vivimos en San Nicolás, una ciudad ubicada sobre un cordón industrial que abarca desde la producción de acero hasta la elaboración de fertilizantes, por lo que nos vemos sometidos a diario a una gran variedad de elementos nocivos y sus consecuencias en la salud. Somos conscientes de que esta problemática no sólo nos toca de cerca a nosotros sino que también a gran parte de la población mundial. Nos impulsa el deseo de mejorar la calidad de vida de las personas a través de nuestras mayores pasiones: la ciencia y la tecnología.
Apelando al interés colectivo y preocupados por esta temática, los desarrolladores de Aeris decidimos realizar una webapp que cumpla con los siguientes características:

REVOLUCIONARIA: Aún no existe una herramienta que analice la correlación entre datos de polución respecto de la aparición y evolución de síntomas en la población y enfermedades crónicas que se interactiva con el usuario.
CONFIABLE: Utiliza datos atmosféricos provistos por la NASA a través de GIBS.
PLATAFORMA ABIERTA: Se presenta como una excelente herramienta global que proporciona una plataforma colaborativa. Miles de personas ingresarán sus datos y otras miles tendrán acceso a ellos alrededor de todo el mundo. Además, Aeris no sólo proporciona una API de acceso universal, sino que también el código que le da vida fue creado con software libre y es totalmente abierta, invitando a desarrolladores de todo el mundo a realizar mejoras.
DINÁMICA: Se actualiza diariamente. El usuario puede ingresar sus síntomas y observar fácilmente la concentración de distintos contaminantes ambientales (seleccionados por él a través de filtros) sensados de manera diaria por la NASA e información acerca de la sintomatología y enfermedades registradas en la localización deseada.
SEGUIMIENTO DE SÍNTOMAS: Brinda la posibilidad al usuario de, no sólo registrar sus síntomas en el momento del ingreso de datos, sino que también crear un perfil para observar la evolución de la intensidad de los mismos. Esto permite llevar un registro propio que sirva como alerta para recurrir a un especialista.
FUENTES DE INVESTIGACIÓN: Uno de los principales objetivos de Aeris es contribuir al conocimiento. Los datos que brinda pueden ser un excelente aporte a investigaciones científicas orientadas a la salud, medio ambiente o a la relación entre ambas, o bien un disparador para nuevos estudios.
IMPACTO
Aeris será de gran utilidad para:
1. Brindar información al usuario acerca de la calidad del aire donde desee y que, en función de ella pueda tomar conciencia y posteriormente medidas al respecto.
2. Proporcionar a los usuarios la posibilidad de realizar un seguimiento de sus síntomas.
3. Generar estadísticas por parte de los organismos de sanidad (nacionales o internacionales) del estado de salud de la población día por día.
4. Incentivar investigaciones científicas a partir de los datos provistos por Aeris.
5. Servir como herramienta para los organismos gubernamentales. Los datos aportados por Aeris supondrán una fuente de información que servirá para la toma de decisiones públicas.
MEJORAS Y ACCIONES FUTURAS
1. Desarrollar una aplicación móvil a fines de ampliar el espectro de usuarios y permitir el fácil acceso.
2. Generar vinculación con organismos públicos de salud que le den un marco de legitimidad a la plataforma.
3. Desarrollar un plan de difusión eficiente para que la cantidad de datos aportados sea realmente representativa de la población a través de instituciones y centros de salud.
4. Integrar nuevas tecnologías. Incluir datos sensados por dispositivos weareables utilizados por los usuarios.

WHY IS AERIS AN INNOVATIVE APP?
There is a substantial number of studies that reflects the harmful effects of air pollutants on human health. Aeris developers are a multidisciplinary group of nine young people between 17 and 24 years. We live in San Nicolas, a city placed on an industrial zone which includes steel and agrochemicals production, so we are subjected daily to a variety of harmful elements and their health consequences. We know that this issue not only affect us directly, but also to much of the world's population. We are driven by the desire to improve the quality of life of people through our greatest passions: science and technology.
Appealing to the collective and concerned about this subject, Aeris developers decided to make a webapp that meets the following characteristics:

REVOLUTIONARY: Until now, there is no interactive tool that analyzes the correlation between pollution data and the onset and progression of symptoms in the population, also with chronic diseases
RELIABLE: Use atmospheric data provided by NASA through GIBS.
OPEN PLATFORM: is presented as an excellent global tool that provides a collaborative platform. Thousands of people enter their data and thousands more have access to them around the world. In addition, Aeris API not only provides universal access, but also its code was created with free software and is fully open, inviting developers around the world to make improvements
DYNAMIC: It is updated daily. The user can enter their symptoms and easily observe the concentration of different environmental pollutants sensed daily by NASA (selected by him through filters) and information about symptoms and diseases registered in the desired location
MONITORING OF SYMPTOMS: Provides the user the possibility to not only record their symptoms at the time of data entry, but also create a profile to observe the evolution of the intensity of them. This allows him/her to keep a record which serves as a warning to turn to a specialist.
SOURCES OF RESEARCH: One of the Aeris main objectives is to contribute to knowledge. The data provided can be an excellent contribution to scientific researchs about health, the environment or the relationship between the two, and also it would be a trigger for further studies.

Aeris will be very useful to:
1. Provide information to the user about air quality where him/her wants and, according to it, him/her can raise awareness and subsequently take action.
2. To provide users the possibility of tracking their symptoms.
3. Bring information to international, national or local health agencies aimed to generate statistics about the population’s health.
4. Encourage scientific research from data provided by Aeris.
5. Serve as a tool for government agencies. The data provided by Aeris will make a source of information that will serve the political decision-making.
FUTURE ACTIONS AND IMPROVEMENTS
1. Develop a mobile app in order to expand the spectrum of users and ease access.
2. Generate links with public health agencies to increase legitimacy of the platform.
3. Develop an efficient communication strategy through institutions and health centres
aimed to acquire the amount of data necessary to be truly representative of the population
