Help pastoralist communities around the world preserve their livelihood, by providing them access to information and resources (e.g grass land, water, safe routes) to prepare and support their migration journey.
The objective of the project is to design a working prototype for a mobile application which provides pastoralists community with information on land monitoring: water availability, grassland, and assist communities in networking.
i haven't started working on it but I will start soon. This purposal is just to give some basic idea about the problem.
1. Most users don't know english or they don't even know to read and write.
2. The users will have no internet connection most of the time.
3. The users will have some limited area where they migrate within a year ( about 100s of square miles).
So I have come up with a simpler idea. That is to develop a specific app for separate tribe for area which will have following advantages:
1. We can use the specific symbols use by a particular tribe. This eliminates the problem of illetracy to some extent.
2. Second advantage is that we can reduce size of app so that it can be downloaded faster and I will be lighter.
The app will work in following manner.
1. One app for a specific tribe is available for download. This app contains the map of the known area where that tribe is supposed to roam all around the year. All the information such as water source ‚ legal ‚ danger and safety will be symbolically illustrated in the map.
2. Using GPS of user we can pin point their location. And they can see in the map about places to go and other information even without internet connection. We can also correspond our map with the date of mobile so that different information such as grass and water can be correctly mapped as per the season of the year.
3. For the dynamic natural changes and legal actions we will still need internet connecton. Since we don't have any other options we can only do is to reduce the data for information update.For this we can divide the map into certain amount of slots and we will give certain binary values to those slots so that they can be updated soon. For each binary number a certain resource or danger is associated . and for a continuous collection of slots a simmilar color coding can be applied within the map for which we don't need internet connection. So we only need to divide the map into minimum number of slot by analysing future changes that can happen within that area which will make it faster to update information.
So I have just begun thinking about the problem and possible solutions . And if I get a best solution I will start making app for a certain tribe ( for Nepal for now that can be implemented in other parts as well).
