#badboyCL received a Global Nomination.
Help pastoralist communities around the world preserve their livelihood, by providing them access to information and resources (e.g grass land, water, safe routes) to prepare and support their migration journey.
The objective of the project is to design a working prototype for a mobile application which provides pastoralists community with information on land monitoring: water availability, grassland, and assist communities in networking.
The environmental data capture robotic probe (#badboyCL) uses multiple low-cost sensors, it has four caterpillars that allow you to move in various fields, collecting information about the composition of various types of soil, gas detection, water and climate analysis. Later, it delivers results easily understandable and useful to shepherds, herdsmen, farmers or anyone who needs this information.
With the initial data obtained by the probe, electrochemical patterns were formed from different soils, with which we designed geographical models that will determine the fertility of the soil and the climatic conditions affecting each area.
The team consists of six experts in the areas of electronics and automation, information technology, computing, networking, chemistry and biology.
The low cost of the probe allows to generate a network of online information which will be processed directly from the base, managing to overcome the communication barrier in remote locations. In the future it is estimated that this information will be of greater relevance to the study of climate change. The probe can also be scalable for maritime and air applications.
The robotic probe incorporates various types of sensors that allow you, for example, to measure ionization of soil (through the inductance), to measure gases as methane, CO2, ethanol, sulfur among others, to obtain climatological and biochemical data of the area, it also has a GPS for location and open source mapping managed with OpenStreetMap. All sensors are connected to an Arduino board that interacts with a Raspberry which is programmed as a Web server with a system developed with Python and JavaScript. It has a Wi-Fi antenna for wireless access (AP) which allows the probe to transmit the information to an external Web access database or to connect directly to the internal application for real-time data without the need for Internet. The information is displayed with warning icons with ISO standardization, and the application can be accessed by a device having Wi-Fi hardware and a Web browser.
