Zero-G: Cross Fire

THE CHALLENGE: Space Recreation
Journey to Mars

There is a great deal of interest from national space agencies to go to the Moon and Mars. ESA wants to go to the Moon and establish a village there. NASA wants to go to Mars. Astronauts and Cosmonauts from all over the world are already living aboard the ISS. What can they do in their free time? It can’t be all about reading books or game play on computers. Think of new sports or games that could take into account the low gravity (e.g. a space lacrosse game, extreme basketball). What about real or virtual experiences involving the Apollo 11 landing site on the Moon? Or following the paths of Sojourner, Spirit or Curiosity on Mars using a form of cross-country skiing? Think of new ways for to astronauts to use their free time. To present your results develop an app that makes use of virtual reality tools.

Explanation

Put on your suit and get your guns ready, it's time to Rock-it. Smile while you overpower your rivals and grant your teammates victory. Don't just move and shoot, it's a sport for the mind as it is for the body. Keep thinking, keep winning.

Game Description

Astronauts split into teams(armies)and go into a big spherical room where they compete together.

the room has 2 gates in opposite directions. Each player starts with 1 flash gun and a flash suit.

Suit specifications

1-flash pistols:

Flash Pistol was used in zero gravity competitions and training in the Battle Room. A laser shot from the pistol would immobilize any shot region on an opponent's flash suit, effectively immobilizing him or her. It had a trigger, a red button (for a tight, laser-like beam) and a white button (for large-area illumination) on its butt end which were easily accessible to the thumb, and several others along the bottom of the shaft that were essentially inaccessible except when using two hands.

2-flash suits

Flash Suits were specially constructed to be mostly bind-free during normal use, but had special light sensors in the fabric that could tell if it had been "hit" by a Flash Pistol. When hit, a portion of the Flash Suit (or all of it, depending on the "lethality" of the hit) would become immobile, or "frozen." A hit in one of the "vital" areas causes the entire suit to become immobilized, including a clamp in the helmet that prevents the soldier from talking. Another aspect of Flash Suits is their glow: in a darkened room, undamaged portions of the suit emit a slight glow, whereas damaged parts are completely dark. Flash Suits are different colors for each Army, and come in various sizes

Game Rules

The objective of the Cross Fire game was to either freeze all players of the opponent's army, or to have two soldiers place themselves or their helmets, unfrozen, on the two sides of the enemy's gate, and have a third enter.

Battle Room

A star was an obstacle found in the Battle Room that soldiers were forced to maneuver around and find ways to use to their advantage in zero gravity. They were likely held in place magnetically or via gravity control, as they did not seem to respond to physical contact. For any given battle there could have been a vast range of stars present, anything from none to very large numbers clustered randomly, simulating shapes, or evenly spaced, sometimes even giving an obvious advantage to a single army.

Ranking

To even make it more fun, a ranking system is developed to gather information about each army and record their wins and losses and decide which is ranked first and which is last.

Astronauts get ready, wear you suits , hands on the trigger, plan your victory by various strategies and formations. keep your body moving and never stop thinking, This isn't just a sport for the body , its also for the mind!
