Lunaris

Develop an interactive app for children that uses smart phone and tablet sensory to locate the Moon (any time of the day, even below horizon), which unlocks current lunar data (phase, distance, etc), and then presents the user options for reading a "Moon" related story, view space agency photos and videos, and/or fun facts about the Moon. The goal of this challenge is edutainment and raising awareness about lunar missions around the world.

The name of the app is a quite common question every child asks; fascinated by that mysteriously glowing, but somehow still shrouded in darkness object. Of course, most of their parents not being scientists, are probably not able to answer all their question (some of them odd!) so we created the “Where Is the Moon” app that help children gain more knowledge not only about the Moon, but also about our Solar System!

The main part of the app is definitely its ability to determine the position of the Moon very accurately, using previously determined information that gets upgraded every month to provide the user the best experience. However, this is certainly not the only good part; “Where Is the Moon” app contains many other interesting options such as:

• History of Moon exploration
• Names and locations of its geographical features
• The phases of the Moon (including the current one)
• The distance between Earth and Moon (including the current one)
• Interesting facts and news about the Moon that regularly get upgraded

Besides these ones, there are also options about the Solar System:

• Information about the planets and their respective moons and other bodies in the Solar System (planetoids, asteroids, comets, etc…)
• Interactive constellation map (independent of your current location)
• The Universe and our relationship with it (oriented towards people more interested in the humanistic and philosophical part)
