Avenge the Dinosaurs received a People's Choice Nomination.
For this challenge, we invite you to become "virtual contributors" to the Asteroid Grand Challenge and develop a hypothetical method, concept note or simple prototype that demonstrates how Machine Learning could be used to help us avoid the same fate as the dinosaurs.
Our project was two fold. The first was to visualize asteroid impacts over the last 1000 years, to help raise awareness of the treat by showing just how often asteroids impact.
The next part was to use machine learning techniques to analyse and visualise the exisitng data on NEO and Potentially Hazardous Asteroids (PHA), to examine the robustness of the existing methods to classifying PHA asteroids and to see could we find any objects which had been miss-classified. This gave a number of interesting results to be followed up in the future.
