Find a way to adapt common gym tools for a reduced gravity environment and design a workout routine that can minimize bone and muscular loss while being fun and easy to use during a long term mission. In doing so consider constraints regarding weight (equipment should weigh less than 500kg) and dimensions. Consider incorporating virtual reality to simulate a jog through an astronaut’s favorite Earth destinations or incorporate gaming to motivate users.
We have designed an integrated exercise machine for zero gravity conditions. The solution includes training to combat muscle and bone loss and osteoporosis experienced by astronauts in long time exposure to zero gravity. The exercises include cardio and muscle exercises. In addition the machine integrates power generation by peddling with arms or legs, VR and gamification elements to make training a fun and enjoyable experience. Also a massage device is included in the machine. The muscle exercises utilise elastic bands for resistance training. The training station is collapsible and fits into a small space. This also helps to reduce the weight of the machine.
Computer, VR-goggles and audio ear plugs, incorporated games and other VR-experiences. Parts to build the structure for the rig, light alloys, rechargeable battery, power generator to attach to pedaling action. Integrated massage machine.
