Space Station

Out-of-this-world fashion with function: clothing or accessories for earth or space wear!

Every space traveler – even the robotic ones – should feel? their very best during the journey, infused with the very best data and technology available. Earthlings can follow suit. Design a space data-tech-fashion wearable in the form of clothing or accessories that will collect or distribute data and technology in the following categories:

Design for Interconnectivity (staying more connected to team, community, and tools)

  • enhance the work/life experience of humans and/or capabilities of robots

Design for Health (biometrics, physical and emotional health, and/or environmental alerts)

  • maintain or improve the health and well-being of the human
  • provide early warning for unhealthy environmental factors (air quality, radiation, outgassing, temperature)

Design for Entertainment (sights, sounds, music, activity)

  • enhance the human experience whether during work or play
Explanation

Our project aims to make the space walks for astronauts much more safe.

Safety Issues

  • Rapid temperature changes outside the ISS.
  • Astronauts movement around the enormous ISS with a heavy space suit
  • Radiation
Introducing the Alderaan Glove...

Alderaan Glove consists of

  • Temperature Sensor
  • Distance Sensor
  • Laser Pointer
  • LCD Display
  • Control Buttons
  • All together controlled by a micro controller Arduino

What can the Alderaan Glove do

Because of the rapid temperature changes outside the ISS, from (-200 C to 200 C) object on the ISS can sometime be extremely hot or cold depending on ISS's position to the Sun. Gloves temperature sensors will measure the temperature of the objects during a space walk just before the astronaut's hand makes contact and it will give a warning preventing astronauts from damaging their space suits and potentially even endangering themselves.

Since the only way that the temperature can travel through vacuum is through Radiation, knowing temperature is very important because it directly relates to Radiation.

Besides that Alderaan glove can also

Because of the heavy space suit, enormous ISS and harsh space environment astronauts find it very difficult to orientate and move around, but with the distance sensor on our glove, astronaut can know the exact distance to their destination making their trip much easier.

And if the Astronaut gets bored

He can also read jokes on the Alderaan Glove.

Future Development

  • More elegant and resistant design
  • Touch screen display
  • More sophisticated sensors
  • Electromagnets so astronauts will stick on ISS and move easier
  • Wifi module for connectivity
  • Applications more than just for astronauts
