Out-of-this-world fashion with function: clothing or accessories for earth or space wear!
Every space traveler – even the robotic ones – should feel? their very best during the journey, infused with the very best data and technology available. Earthlings can follow suit. Design a space data-tech-fashion wearable in the form of clothing or accessories that will collect or distribute data and technology in the following categories:
Design for Interconnectivity (staying more connected to team, community, and tools)
Design for Health (biometrics, physical and emotional health, and/or environmental alerts)
Design for Entertainment (sights, sounds, music, activity)
Our solution was designed to improve the workflow and experience of astronauts when wearing EVA suits. Bulky suits make it difficult to check on mission critical information such as life support statuses or warnings. Connectivity to NASA mission control or the space station would help the astronaut in receiving information such as complex instructions, images, or diagrams, and allow them to work more efficiently in space, whether it be for maintenance of the I.S.S., or repair of a satellite.
Using the Google Cardboard VR platform, we developed a proof of concept to simulate a heads up display that can be integrated into an astronauts visor, in order to allow them to have easier access to the information they need to complete their spacewalk successfully. Through bluetooth connectivity, we can connect to the HUD through a computer and simulate sending sensor warnings and instructions as if we were the suit's sensor package, or mission control relaying important instructions.
