Have you ever wanted a rocket pack to soar amongst the sky? Now you can … on Mars… Gravity is less, atmospheric density is less, and the vistas are breathtaking. So come to Mars...
Buck Rogers aside, Mars is an interesting environment for out-of-this-world mobility options for an explorer. This challenge asks for the definition of a conceptual mobility solution to allow an astronaut to easily and rapidly explore Mars including overcoming obstacles such as cliffs, ravines and other difficult terrain. The solution should be person-portable and any means or source of propulsion be locally produced.
This challenge can be answered by:
Our team, RED JSM, is a young, multidisciplinary, curious and audacious team.
We made an exoskeleton to help astronaut to move on Mars. It is easy to wear, light and unobtrusive. It can bring a lot of mobility especially to jump over cliff, ravins and other difficult terrain.
We are using small detonation of methane/oxygen bipropellant to push an actuator-based system which will give enough strength to the astronaut to jump higher and further. For the landing, we will use the exhaust gaz to control and absorb the energy.
As Mars is very rocky, the feet will be design so that it can absorb shocks, and then, our great astronaut will be able to take a smoothly walk over there!
We believe it can help astronaut in their mission to collect data, travel faster, safer and more efficiently!
