THE CHALLENGE: Earth Live
Earth

Develop a web tool, mobile device app or add-on for existing apps or websites that leverages NASA imagery and climate data to illustrate the impacts of our changing Earth in areas of interest to you. Some ideas to explore include:

  • Use NASA Earth observations data, social media, smart phones, and Short Message Service (SMS) text phones to collect Earth observations and connect public in local, regional, and national networks to communicate about our changing planet.
  • Examine current natural events curated by NASA’s EONET (Earth Observatory Natural Event Tracker) by browsing global historical and near real-time imagery from space.
  • Upload images or other data points demonstrating visible observations and how they compare to satellite data. For example, generating early-warning alerts or validating precipitation rates reported from NASA’s Global Precipitation Measurement Mission.
  • Integrate NASA imagery with a mobile assistant to allow for dynamic image generation based on a basic request structure.
Explanation

We have seen climate change prediction in numerical values. Which is so much boring. Have you ever considered that if you can see cloud movement by yourselves and understand how the prediction is made by observing that movement. Through our concept user can have this real time and unique experience . Basically what we are trying to do is we'll show the images of current movement of clouds and cyclones and by analysis of that we will give the user a prediction. So that a user can relate better as he or she is observing the climate change by himself or herself. Let me give you some examples : Thick gray cloud always represent dry weather. Thinner cloud reminds you that storm is coming. Now you understand how we will predict the climate. Now with our tracking system we can track clouds. As we know that tracking a cloud is not an easy thing as it is change it formation very quickly. But using normalize cross co relation method and with our own algorithm we can track cloud easily. From this tracking we will get two things. One is close observation of cloud type and another is variation of cloud data. From these two data we can give a prediction of climate change. What else er can do with this system ? we can track cyclone eye to understand that in which direction the cyclone is going. So an user can see by themselves with a mobile device that cyclone is coming. It will raise their awareness also. So with our concept we can have a great impact on the user's motivation about climate change.
